Quality Control Inspector
Position Type: Full-time, Hourly
Job Summary:
As a Quality Control Inspector at TASSCO, you will play a crucial role in maintaining our high reputation for quality products. The Quality Control Inspector is responsible for examining parts and shop drawings to ensure TASSCO products meet customer expectations. This role supports manufacturing operations by performing and documenting problem-solving investigations and conducting in-process sub-assembly and final QC product acceptance testing. Quality Control Inspectors assist in identifying and documenting processes and product non-conformances, working closely with the operations team to ensure compliance with AWS D1.1 and other regulatory standards. Responsibilities also include reviewing welding processes, testing welders, and recording welding documents. Candidates must have the visual acuity and physical ability to perform inspections as needed.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Visual Inspections: Coordinate and conduct in-process and final QC product acceptance non-destructive testing, maintaining attention to detail with a broad understanding of the industry.
- Documentation: Review and record any QA/QC notes or data on each job for future reference. Identify and document product and process non-conformances.
- Document Review: Assist in quality investigations and associated problem-solving activities.
- Compliance Assurance: Ensure work is designed and built in accordance with industry codes and standards for safety and quality.
- Team-Oriented: Excel in working with others in a professional, respectful manner.
- Schedule Flexibility: Perform quality control inspections on a job-to-job basis, with fast turnarounds and critical deadlines. Certain inspections may require travel.
Required Skills:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 3 years prior experience in steel fabrication manufacturing or similar production tasks OR 1 year of experience in steel fabrication manufacturing or similar tasks with an associate degree.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces, climb ladders and stairs, and lift and carry up to 50 lbs. of tools.
- Precision Measuring Tools: Proficient in using tools like plumb bobs, tape measures, levels, and precision instruments (inside/outside micrometers, pi tapes, dial indicators).
- Blueprint and Drawing Interpretation: Capability to read and understand industry drawings and 3D models.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with team members, clients, and vendors.
- Analytical and Critical Thinking: Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions, with strong problem-solving skills.
- Multitasking Skills: Manage multiple tasks and responsibilities concurrently for efficient project management.
- Time Management: Work under pressure in a fast-paced environment, meeting project deadlines and milestones.
- Microsoft Office Proficiency: Familiarity with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for documentation and reporting.
Preferred Skills:
- AWS CAWI/CWI: Possession of an American Welding Society’s Certified Welding Inspector certification, demonstrating knowledge of AWS D1.1 structural welding code.
- Experience as a Quality Inspector: 1-2 years of related experience in an industrial steel fabrication environment.
- Metallurgical Knowledge: Understanding of metallurgy in engineering, welding, and fabrication projects.
- ERP Software Experience: Familiarity with ERP or other quality management software.
